Reframing Thoughts
Whatever we predominantly keep in our thoughts will become our reality. If we tend to focus on negative thoughts then our confidence will be affected. We need to ensure that our thoughts are mostly positive. But how do you shift from negative thoughts to positive thoughts?
Reframing.
Reframing your thoughts is a simple way for you change negative thoughts into positive ones. Quite simply, reframing is changing the language. Never underestimate the power of language. Your language is the power to shifting the focus, balance and power. Let’s look at an example.
Reframing Example
Let’s say you lack in confidence when it comes to sales. Your predominant thoughts might be things like:
I’m no good at sales.
I’m terrified of cold calling.
I don’t know how to sell.
I’m worried that people will hang up on me.
Do those sound familiar? What do you notice about the language in these phrases? They’re entirely negative aren’t they? They’re full of fear and negative words like, “terrified”, “don’t”, “worried” and more. Take a moment and just think about that. Those destructive and negative thoughts are your predominant thoughts! No wonder your confidence is suffering!
Now let’s reframe these thoughts.
I am good at sales.
I am growing in confidence every day when it comes to cold calling.
I have the ability to learn sales techniques
If someone hangs up on me, then they’re not my customer.
Do you see the difference?
All we’ve done is reframe the thoughts by changing the language. By changing the language to positive you will start to feel more confident as a result.
This is not a one-time exercise or fix. You have to keep saying these reframed sentences (or affirmations). The more you say them, the more you will increase in confidence. Like most things, it takes a lot of practice and consistency. Without consistency, this will not work.
Give it a go. Reframe your thoughts.
